One common thread amongst a wide variety of clients is the misconception that simply opening up shop and throwing out a few posts is adequate in this ever-changing digital landscape. We call this the "Field of Dreams" strategy.

Just because you build it, doesn't mean they'll come. Because of our extensive background on the client side, we understand that just “checking the box” in terms of our clients’ marketing strategy is just not going to fly. 

Having sat on the other side of the table, we understand that sometimes it’s difficult to wrap your head around a full-fledged social and digital strategy when you’re unsure how to measure ROI, or how to tie it back to business goals. A common question we hear is: why do I need to secure a budget for social media? Isn’t it free?

Effective digital marketing isn’t free. It takes time, effort, investment, and expertise. Below are five steps in the process any thoughtful social media effort. Each of these requires some sort of investment in either resources or promotional dollars or both. 



You know what your business goals are. But translating them into a digital strategy is a little different. Is your goal brand awareness? Sales leads? Website traffic? Whatever it is, your plan must compliment your overall business goals. Better yet, is social media even the right platform with which to meet these goals?

You can post on your social channels all day long, but if the quality of those posts isn’t captivating or useful to your audience or the content is off-strategy, you won’t find the results you’re looking for.

Once you have the first two down, keeping your content consistent is key to developing a loyal fan base. Several platforms require a base amount of content simply to stay top-of-mind in users' newsfeeds.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the days of organic content going “viral” are as long gone as the double rainbow guy.  Thoughtfully curating who receives your message is imperative to your strategy. Paid ads on social media allow you to carefully choose exactly who your audience is going to be, whether they follow you or not!
