Working at The Revs Agency has a lot of perks – but being able to bring my pup Baxter into the office is definitely at the top of the pros list.
Here are three of the biggest benefits of working at a dog-friendly office:
There actually is a scientific reason behind why dogs can make you feel better when you’re stressed or anxious. Petting a dog increases your levels of the stress-reducing hormone oxytocin and decreases your body’s production of cortisol, the stress hormone making you happier. And happy people just don’t shoot their husbands err... are overall more stress-free.
Sitting at a desk, staring at a computer screen all day is horrible for your health (and eyes). It’s good to give yourself a few short breaks throughout the day but honestly, that’s sometimes hard to do. Having a dog around forces you to step away – by going on a quick walk or trying to make fetch happen err... playing fetch - which gives your brain a break and you can return to work feeling refreshed and engaged.
Allowing employees to bring their dog to the office means they won’t have to worry about leaving them at home all day. And if you’re anything like me, you spend more time worried about the pup home alone than actually doing work (I hope my boss doesn’t see this). This can actually encourage staff to work longer hours because they won’t be rushing home at 5:00 to check on their animals.
Recruiting & Retention
I thought I was the only person that wanted to be with my dog 24/7 but apparently not. Turns out that pet-friendly policies help companies attract and retain talent. According to a recent study, two out of three HR managers said that it’s common for potential candidates to ask about pet policies in the application process. 82% of employees that work at pet-friendly companies said they feel a greater loyalty to their company because of their company’s pet-friendly policy.
To sum it up, if your office doesn’t allow dogs you should probably quit! Kidding, but hopefully this blog post can help persuade your boss to allow dogs in the office -- unless, of course, he or she is deathly afraid of them. Good luck!
